Allow Me to Re-Introduce Myself
Some time ago, I made a scary leap.
I left a job that was draining me mentally, emotionally, and most of all, personally. I was stuck in an industry I no longer loved, my anxiety was through the roof, and worst of all, it was taking me away from being the present parent and partner I wanted to be. So I did something terrifying... and freeing. I walked away.
I jumped in with both feet, and after a year of unlearning, relearning, and pushing through a whole lot of imposter syndrome, we officially launched The Keeley Collective a creative business offering custom website design and intentional branding for small businesses, entrepreneurs, and purpose-driven brands - I say we, because even though she is behind the scenes, my wife is as much of a force in this company as I am.
Now, here we are. Ten months into this journey. Still standing. Still learning. Still building.
And let me tell you running a web design business while being a full-time stay-at-home dad is no joke.
Balance has become both my biggest challenge and greatest teacher. Most of my work happens in the early morning hours before my family wakes up, or late at night when it’s Stefanie’s turn to put our son to bed (we take turns). During the day, especially in the summer, I’m on full-time dad duty unless his grandparents bless me with a few focused work hours here and there.
That means a typical day might include emails and design mockups at sunrise, park visits before lunch, arcade runs at Dave & Busters, and pool time in the afternoon. Then it’s back to the laptop after bedtime. It’s not always graceful—but it’s ours, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
